The Southern Hemisphere is the lucky place where a “ring of fire” eclipse of the sun can be viewed. On February 26, the eclipse will start over the South Pacific Ocean, traverses South America, and end in Africa, although the larger region of the world will be able to witness a partial solar eclipse.  The phenomenon is known as an annular solar eclipse, where the moon’s disk is too small to cover the full sun thus leaving a ring of light around the dark silhouette of the moon.
